Military pistol shooting team, late Victorian

£38.00

The 11½ x 8½ ins clear and well toned photograph shows four soldiers grouped around a taget and trophies. Each holds a pistol but not all pistols are the same. It is mounted on part of an old album page and there are few further clues about them although part of one photograph on the reverse refers to the 3rd Bn. Rifle Brigade and the large photograph has a look of India, as do the tables on which the shields are resting. The figure in the scarlet tunid has a cap badge with cypher VRI which is probably an unattached officer’s badge of the Indian Army. The top right corner is broken off but it is a long way from the figures. We see lots of pictures of shooting teams but I cannot recall seeing one of pistol shooting.   sep23/3
