The type written letter, on aheet of 9 x 7 ins. writing paper headed PRIME MINISTER’S HOUSE, NEW DELHI  is dated January 21, 1956. It is addressed at the bottom to Shri S. N. Swamy, “Shanti Rivas”, Irwin Road, Mysore and begins in Lady Mounbatten’s hand Dear Shri Swamy and is an apology with regret for not being able to meet him on this trip to India. It concludes With all kind remembrances and is signed Yours sincerely, Edwina Mountbatten of BurmaAlthough almost ten years after Independence it is notable that the Mountbattens are staying at the Prime Minister’s House and a sign of the close relationeship they, and expecially Lady Mountbatten retained with Jawaharlal Nehru. letter has light cvertical and orizontal folds showingthat it was posted in a small envelope.  jul16/3
