NORTH WEST FRONTIER. The rock carved regimental badges at Cherat, Peshawar

A very handsome full plate 11 x 8½ ins vintage photograph of the regimental badges carved into the rocks in Cherat Valley, near Peshawar, signed in the negative Holmes. This appears ealier than the usual postcards one sees of these remarkable relics of imperial times as there are fewer carvings. The photograph probably dates from around the end of the 19th century. The infantry regiments shown include 74th HLI, Royal Scots Fusiliers, KRRC, 51st 99th, 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 87th. nov14/2
