Northumberland Fusiliers. A late Victorian field officer of the 1st Volunteer Battalion.
A large portrait of a Victorian field officer, 15½ x 11¾ ins, showing the Major half length in the dress uniform of the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. The elaborate lace of the sleeve indicates a field officer as well as the major’s rank badges on the epaulettes. The photographer’s credit, lower left, is Hunter, Hexham. He wears the Volunteer Long Service Medal. The image is printed in the style that was then fashionable with added shading and a touch of gold to the lace. It is mounted on old board. jun14/5
