Paoletti. A book of Impronte plaster casts of classical subjects, 19th century
£550.00
The typical double opening book is octavo [10 x 6½ ins.] with marbled paper covered boards and a vellum spine with red leather title lables gilt and additional gilt decoration. The labels read PAOLETTI IMPRONTE and OPERE DIVERSI . There are areas of loss to some of the marbled paper but the vellum spine is in extremely smart condition. The upper opening has the 14 original impronte surrounded in numbered black card and mounted on a green ground. The front pastedown identifies these in hand written script and includes Pericles and Hercules. The rear opening contains just ten of the original impronte with four lacking. Some of the books of impronte by Paoletti were produced in sets of several volumes but this appears to have been produced as a single volume, perhaps for the less wealthy grand tourist. oct4/1
