Prince of Wales’s Tour in India 1875-6. A very good group portrait of the Prince with his suite [without their helmets]

£240.00

An excellent full plate portrait [10½ x 7½ ins.] with the 23 members of his staff on old backing paper [small creas from left top but not resching the figures] titled in ink Bombay. November 1875. The photograph is particularly well toned and detailed. Unlike dec24/2 shown earlier today this time the sitters have removed their helmets. This is much more helpful for facial recognition athough personaly I like to see helmets in place.  We are able to identify the sitters using a reference copy we have of another example of this image. the central seated row from left: Lord Suffield, Duke of Sutherland, H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, Sir Barstle Frere, Maj. Gen. Sir Samuel Brown. Rear row: Capt Durranr, RN, Mjor Williams RHA, Capt Owen Williams RHG, Earl of Aylesford, Lt. Col. Arthur Ellios Gr.Gds., Mr Arthur Hardinge, Maj. Gen.Sir D. Probyn,VC, Maj. Gen Lod Alfeed Paget, Surg. Maj. Sir Joseph Fayrer, Mr. W.H. Russell, Mr Albert Grey, Canon Duckworth, Maj. Bradshaw, Capt Hon. H. Carr Glyn, Mr Sidney Hall. dec24/3
