Royal Company of Archers. 23mm gilt button.

An excellent example of the gilt 23mm button of the King’s Body Guard with the backmark J. STEWART  EDINBURGH . The high quality button, which retains virtually full original gilt finish, has the design of a Tudor crown set within a St. Andrew’s Cross surrounded by the title on a circlet. The shank is a little bent.  It probably dates from the Edwardian period. The distinguished unit in its green uniform parades on formal royal occasions in Scotland, especially during the Scottish summer season in Edinburgh involving ceremonial events such as the Order of the Thistle Ceremony. aug28/2
