A very good 27mm gilt, open backed livery button of the Earl of Scarborough with the backmark FIRMIN & SONS LD. 106 ST MARTINS LANE LONDON. The crest is described heraldically as A pelican in piety in her nest, all proper and is beneath an earl’s coronet. This probably dates from the time of the 10th Earl, Sir Aldred Lumley, KCB [born 1857 & succeeded 1884. He served in the South African war and was a lieutenant in the 7th Hussars and Hon. Colonel of the Yorkshire Dragoons, ADC to King Edward VII in 1902. jan27/2   SOLD 17th May 2024
