Scinde Camel Corps, officer’s 20mm button on supplier’s card

£85.00

A scarce, slightly domed officer’s 20mm button of black composition with the regiment’s initials SCC inset in silver,. The button is on a piece of old card and came from an archive of the London military supplier GARDEN from whom I acquired it in the 1970s. A contemporary leather tag remains fastened to the shank but I have not been able to read the ink writing on it. The company supplied large numbers of buttons to the Indian Army in the 19th century. There is a small edge chip top left at 10 o’clock. feb20/3

The regiment was raised in dthe Bombay Pfresidency at Karachi in 1843 by Lieutenants Robert FitzGerald and George Green to serve in the newly annexed province. According to the National Army Museum it initially had just 4 British officers and around 500 soldiers.
