Scottish Masonic Grand Master’s official seal
The large and heavy desk seal has brass matrix with a lignum vitae handle. The handle has a crack where it has been broken and been glued together. The overall height is 110mm and the diameter of the matrix is 50mm. The finely engraved arms of Lord Saltoun beneath a Baron’s coronet are central within an inscription in gothic capitals SIG: ALEX: DOMINUS SALTOUN MAGNUS MAGISTER [Seal Alexander, Lord Saltoun Grand Master]. This seal dates from 1933-35 when Alexander Fraser. the 20th Lord Saltoun, was Grand master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. That was the year in which he inherited the title, previous to which he was known as the Master of Saltoun.
