SEAL, an antique seal matrix of a hound beneath the motto TAKE HEED

The oval seal, 20 x 18mm, matrix is mounted in a gold plated rectangular frame with canted corners, 25 x 22mm. The matrix shows a hound or hunting dog beneath the warning TAKE HEED. The illustrations show a reddish tinge to the frame but in the metal it appears a softer gold colour. One illuastration shows the seal as it emaerged yesterday in a box of other seals, cameos, etc. when I was tidying a desk. Other items from the box will appear in due course. This matrix would particularly suit a gentleman’s ring. I would estimate it to be from the first half of the 19th century.  oct30/1  RESERVED 31st October
