Sir John Stuart Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl [1840-1917] had served in the Army and was Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Battalion of the Black Watch. The carte de visite by MAULL & Co., 62 Cheapside and 187A Piccadilly shows the Duke three quarter length in dress uniform as Colonel of the Atholl Highlanders, wearing the Order of the Thistle. The Atholl Highlanders still parade on ceremonial occasions and are the only privately raised regiment in the United Kingdom. may15/7
