Two old Scottish soldiers in a very strange photograph, circa 1860s/70s

£20.00

A rather faded photograph, 5¾ x 4 ins, pasted to part of an old scrap album sheet [other very good images of Highland officers from this album are elsewhere in this category]. The figure on the left, in part Indian costume and holding a percussion rifle, wears a shoulder belt with a plate which is probably Royal Scots Fusiliers. His kilted companion on the roof has a set of bagpipes and wears a masonic medal. I have no explanation of the pose or dress – perhaps it was the morning after a fancy dress party.  apr18/1
