Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry. Lt Col. Josceline FitzRoy Bagot

£145.00

Lieut. Colonel Josceline FitzRoy Bagot, J.P., D.L. [1854-1914] of Levens Hall, Westmorland in dress uniform of the Westmorland & Cumberland Imperial Yeomanry wearing the Queen’s Medal for South Africa with three clasps. A good waist length portrait on photographer’s card of cabinet card size but with no photographer’s credit, 6½ x 4½ ins. He had been commissioned into the Grenadier Guards in 1875 and served as an ADC to the Governor General of Canada in the 1880s [the Marquess of Lansdowne]. It is likely this portrait dates from around the time in 1902 when he was appointed an honorary lieutenant colonel of his regiment. He twice served as M.P. for Kendal and had been nominated for a baronetcy just before his death. It was given to his only son, Alan the 1st and last baronet.   jan23/2

Three of our illustrations show the sitter in photographs in a fine country house album we have currently. One shows him in 1910 on the occasion of his daughter’s marriage as they walk between the Yeomanry.
