YORKSHIRE HUSSARS. A rusting and damaged shabraque carrying tin case

£170.00

The 17 x 15 x ins tin is somewhat dilapidated but retains the polished brass name plate of its distinguished owner and the supplier’s name plate of Hawkes & Co. 14 Piccadilly London. The engraved brass owner’s plate reads Captn. Gascoigne, Yorkshire Hussars. This is presumably Lieut. Colonel F. R. Trench Gascoigne, D.S.O. [1851-1937] of Lotherton Hall, near Leeds. He served in the Royal Horse Guards in the Sudan 1884-5, commanded the 3rd Imperial Yeomanry in the South African War and was Honorary Colonel of the Yorkshire Hussars. apr18/2

A few years ago we sold his personal photograph album composed after the 1903 Delhi Durbar, which he attended as a guest.
