16th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry, officer’s 23mm gilt button.

£50.00

A good example of the officer’s gilt button of the 16th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry of the pattern adopted in 1885 when the 23mm size was the largest worn on the tunic and the great coat. It was replaced in 1900 by a similar pattern with the regimental number altered to XVI  from 16 although from 1896 the regiment used the general Bengal Lancers pattern.  This example has the rather uncommon backmark SIMPSON & ROOK, 9 & 10 LITTLE BRITAIN, LONDON.  jan27/1
