388pp. Contemporary full straight grain crimson morocco gilt with black title label gilt ARMY LIST 1788, original boldly marbled endpapers [paper on the front pastedown torn away in part, shown], all edges gilt, boards a little marked, hinges very sound and the the text block tight and clean, the ffep facing the title page has a pasted letter from Richmond Barracks , North Yorkshire with details of an officer’s career . This edition shows the composition of the army at the start of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. This type of fine crimson binding with gilt decoration was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries with military men, popularised by the libraries of George III and the Royal Dukes.  nov19/4
