17th DOGRAS, officer’s field cap by Pitmans of Lahore

£370.00

A good, attractive example of an officer’s post 1923field cap of the 17th Dogras. The cap is of very dark blue or black cloth with the regiment’s yellow facing colour to the upper part and red piping. It has the standard badge, 35 x 30 mm, in gilt metal, and the two front buttons by J. R. GAUNT. LONDON to the front are of flat gilt with badge mounted in silver of the strle usually worn on the mess dress waistcoat. The cap has the military outfitter’s label of Pitmans, Lahore to the lining and beneath it an initial – probably the central initial of the original owner as there are two faint oval marks where two other initials seem to have been. The regiment had two battalions and bore this title until Independence, having been the 41st Dogras before 1923.    apr4/1
