The large 27mm size officer’s gilt button has king’s crown above a circle with the name THE LOYAL REGIMENT around the roman numerals XVII and has the backmark HOBSON & SONS LEXINGTON ST LONDON W. The regiment took this title in 1903, before which it was the 17th Musalman Rajput Infantry. It had two battalions during the 1914-18 War. It disappeared in the 1922 reorganisation.  jun18/8
