19th Foot (1st Yorkshire North Riding) officer’s gilt button 18mm

An excellent example of the 18mm officer’s gilt button of the 19th Foot, 1st Yorkshire North Riding (Princess of Wales’s Own) as worn on the tunic. The button, which has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON  is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when its title became 1st & 2nd Bns. The Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own Yorkshire Regiment). This is very good example retaining the full original gilt finish, so bright it defies this photographer’s ability not to reflect its surroundings. jul16/2
