2nd Life Guards: an enamelled medal of 1884

A small circular medal, 30mm in diameter, engraved on one side Tpr J Smithson, 2nd LIFE GUARDS, 1884 with an enamelled representation on the other of a guardsman wearing helmet and aiming a rifle from a kneeling position. Possibly some sort of shooting prize. The white coloured metal appears to have been at least partially gilded at some time. It is almost exactly the size of a modern £2 coin and is shown alongside one for comparison in one of the photographs.
