1747. A large folio contemporary copy of a documents giving the subsistence rates to officers on the Establishments of Minorca & Gibraltar

A large folio page, c. 18 x 11 ins, written in a fine secretarial hand in palace script on both consecutively numbered sides, 53-54, of laid and watermarked paper. This is a contemporary copy of 1747 addressed to William Pitt Paymaster General giving, By His Majesty’s Command, in tabular form, the rates of subsistence per day to the various ranks from Colonel [18 shillings] to Private Man [6 pence]. The paper is completely sound with just a little chipping at the edges. There is a central horzaontal fold.

This document dates to just a few years before the Seven Years’ War when Minorca and Fort St. Philip were besieged.
