2nd or Grenadier Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry, officer’s 22mm

£30.00

A handsome example of this East India Company period button in the largest size worn by officers, probably on the coatee in the 1830-60 period. The Second or Grenadier Regiment Native Infantry was one of just two grenadier regiments in the Bombay army which took precedence in the line of Native Infantry. The button carries all its battle honours, Koregaum Kirkee on the circle around the numeral  and the especially prized early honour Egypt beneath the sphinx at the top of button. Several regiments who had this honour wore it in this way where others would have the royal crown. The button retains most of its original gilt and has the backmark JENNENS  &Co LONDON.        oct14/5
