30th (Cambridgeshire) Regt. of Foot, officer’s gilt 25mm, 1855-1881

A good example of the officer’s 25mm gilt button of the 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot as worn on the tunic from 1855 until 1881 when the 30th became the 1st Bn. The East Lancashire Regiment. The button, which retains most of the original gilt. has the backmark C. SMITH & SON, 5 NEW BURLINGTON ST. LONDON , a rather unusual maker to find on an officcr’s button. aug9/3
