3rd West York (Light Infantry) Militia white metal 23mm c 1850s
£25.00
A 23mm white tunic button of the 3rd (Light Infantry) West York Militia with design of the rose within the light infantry strung bugle with crown above. It has the backmark BENT & PARKER 87 NEWHALL ST. BIRMINGHAM . The button is illustrated in Ripley & Darmanin: English Infantry Militia Buttons 1757-1881 [293] where it is noted that the button was also worn by the 4th Royal Lancashire Militia. The size of this button suggests it was possibly worn on either the last pattern of coatee or the double breasted tunic. The front of the button shows sone wear and shank is rather bent. Another button from my old private collection put together in the 1970s and untouched since then. aug27/2
