42nd (Royal Highland ) (The Black Watch) Regt. of Foot. An officer’s gilt 25mm tunic button with the backmark JENNENS & Co LONDON. This is the pattern worn from 1855 until 1881 when it became the 1st Bn. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt.)  Although in good condition the button does not retain a lot of the original gilt finish but this is often the case with this regiment, probably because it is the only example of a button in this series of 109 regiments which has an incuse rather than a raised design. aug7/3   SOLD 3rd March 2024
