57th [West Middlesex] Regiment of Foot. brass 25mm button with the backmark SMITH & WRIGHT E &Ws PATENT BIRMINGHAM. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became known as the 2nd Bn. The Dorsetshire Regiment. The button has a few black marks between the numbers and to their right. I don’t remember seeing this patent before. sep28/4
