An example of the officer’s 18mm gilt button of the 83rd (County Dublin) Regt. of Foot, the pattern in use from1855 to 1881 when the 83rd became the  The Royal Irish Rifles. After Irish independence the regiment became part of the Royal Ulster Rifles. It has the backmark FIRMIN & SONS 153 STRAND LONDON & 14 CONDUIT ST. Although very little rubbed the original gilt finish now has a rather coppery look.  jul13/2
