An attractive 15mm officer’s gilt button of the 97th Earl of Ulster’s Regt. This is the pattern worn on the officer’s coatee between 1826 and 1855 [see Squire plate 25, 6]. The Irish button carries the regiment’s title on a garter around the number XCVII beneath a crown and surrounded by a wreath of shamrock, thistles, and roses. This example is in excellent condition with virtually full original gilt finish and the backmark is JENNENS & Co. LONDON. After 1881 the regiment became The 2nd Bn. The Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regt, may14/1 SOLD 31st Jan. 2026
