A Georgian royal button in fine gilt
£120.00
The 22mm high quality button is on flat construction with the royal cypher GR most probably for George III, with the royal and Garter mottos together with a rose and a thistle above oak leaves. The backmark is JENNENS & Co, LONDON. There is just very slight rubbing to the high points of the rose. We are not sure who the wearer would have been abut the design is most similar to that of Warders of the Yeomen of the Guard although more recent examples of their buttons omit the mottos and the cypher. It is of the quality which suggests if it could be a button worn by the Constable of the Tower or a similar high ranking officer. jul31/4
