A Rajput prince or nobleman, circa 1880s – 90s

£120.00

A cabinet card with a full length portrait of an undientified Rajput nobleman or prince. He  assumes a military stance wearing Indian dress with jewels but with a British Sam Browne belt carrying his tulwar sword. Chipping to the edges of the card but not affecting the print itself. There is no photographer’s credit although we also have a damaged larger royal card with a portrait of the same man and that is by Herzog & Higgins, Mhow and the appointment on the back of that card is to the Viceroy the Earl of Elgin suggesting a date in the 1890s. We show a picture of that portrait for comparison.      nov29/1
