An early Victorian silver vesta case, London 1850

The elegant and slim vesta case measures 50 x 25 mm with a depth of just 8mm. The case has overall engine turned decoration with a phoenix crest in a reserve on the lid. The box has a large and smaller lid, the latter with a adapted for easier opening. It ha a four part hinge and the rear of the box is ridged as a striker. It has signs of wear as one would expect of a delicate piece in frequent use. It is hall marked London 1850 with the maker’s mark repeated on both lids, the larger also with the maker’s nameproudly stamped in full BEYNON & STOCKEN, 10 GRACECHURCH STREET. sep18/4
