Bramahputra Lodge No 3419. A 9 carat gold Masonic jewel with silver gilt and enamel suspension, 1937

The gold jewel consists of a masonic set square engraved on the reverse Presented to W. Bro. M. E. T. BURKE with the esteem of the Brethren 1936 – 37. It is hall marked in London as 9 carat gold with date letter B for 1937 with the maker’s mark G.K.&S. The medal is suspended by a ring [marked 9.375] from a silver gilt and enamel brooch, by the same maker but just struck additionally with the lion passant and the London leopard’s head. The enamel picture, which is undamaged, shows a scene on the Brahmaputra River in Assam, north east India with a paddle steamer in the foregound and mountains behind.  The overall height of medal and brooch is 80mm and the widest point of the square is 55mm. A pale blue silk ribbon [now detached from the bar behind the brooch] is further suspended from a silver gilt and enamel top bar with lettering W.M.   1936 -37. This is similarly marked to the brooch.     apr30/2
