CADOGAN. A livery button of the Earl Cadogan.

A 26mm livery showing the crest of a dragon’s head  within a garter bearing the family motto QUI INVIDET  MINOR [He who envies is inferior but the button omits the est  of the Latin] beneath an earl’s crest. The button retains some of the original gilt finish and has the backmark PITT & Co. 31 MADDOX ST. LONDON. The present earl, who inherited the earldom in 2023 still owns large estates in London and his second title is Viscount Chelsea.   jan12/3
