CALCUTTA 1911 on the occasion of Royal Visit following the Delhi Durbar.
£140.00
Calcutta December 1911. A very interesting group of four good 5½ x 3¼ ins photographs showing scenes around the Reception Pavilion before the arrival of King Emperor George V and Queen Empress Mary. The photograph of Maharaja Raj Rajendra Narayan of Cooch Behar chatting with British officials is poignant as the handsome young ruler had only succeeded to the gadi in September 1911 and was to die a little less than two years later. another image shows him talking with the Maharaja of Mayurbjanj. The other side of the the old card album leaf shows a 12¾ x 7¾ scene titled on the card Calcutta. Decorations in the Red Road on the occasion of Their Imperial Majesties Visit Dec.30th to Jany. 8th 1911-1912. feb21/2
