Title page, 7pp contents,  The Almanac for 1854 [28pp unpaginated], pp5-284 Directory, 302pp Appendix & Register, xxxii Alphabetical List of Europeans, xviii Civil & Military Index, 8pp Index to His Majesty’s Forces serving at Madras & Bombay, 6pp Advertisements. Original or slightly later full leather gilt, front hinge strengthened with tape, rear free endpaper lacking and a few pages of advertisements may also be missing, pages 1-4 after the Almanack lacking but the rest of the text block is sound and the paper strong. Some old writing to front endpapers. The pagination of these early directories is often chaotic and this copy is more straight forward than many. These locally printed directories contain much fascinating information not easily available elsewhere. The officers of the following regiments of HM Army are listed as serving in the Presidency: 11th & 16th Lt. Dragoons, 3rd, 13th, 14th, 16th, 31st, 39th, 44th, 49th Regts of Foot. At Madras are listed 13th Lt Dragoons, 2nd Bn Ist, 26th, 41st, 45th, 46th, 48th. 54th, 89th, Regts. of Foot. At Bombay: 4th Lt. Dragoons, 2nd, 6th. 20th, 40th Regts. of Foot.
