1119pp. Contemporary half calf with marbled paper covered boards gilt,  re-cased with late 20th century leather gilt spine, all edges marbled, hinge broken leaving upper board and spine detached from text block, text block very sound, a few sections, most notably pp 496-544, have brown foxing but the rest of the text is fine,  armorial bookplate to front pastedown Crawford Antrobus. A most useful and accessible way of seeing the entries of the London Gazette, Supplements & London Gazette Extraordinary connected with the military and naval campaigns of the year . The year begins with a 19 page Declaration in the name of the Prince Regent setting out the reasons and occasion of the War with America. There are dispatches from Upper Canada regarding American attacks and returns of casualties are included. There is a comprehensive index. There are reports and despatches of many other actions on land and at sea and the reports often give a great sense of immediacy. Returns of dead and wounded are often included. For example those of officers at the Battle of Vittoria together with an account form the Marquess Wellington. This also includes the names of Portuguese officers.. In March there is an extensive list of ships taken by Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren with his squadron. There are numerous accounts of naval actions, including boat actions, with lists of casualties [all ranks named]. Although a little difficult to handle because of its unwieldly thickness there is much to satisfy those interested in the 1812 War between Britain and America. oct23/1
