Champagne and Brie. A large two sheet French map by Bazin, 1790.
Bazin M:Cartes de Champagne et de Brie avec les Pays circonvoisins; où aux anciennes Divisions on a joint celles des Départements et les Districts suivant le decret de l’Assemblée National, sanctionné par le Roi, le 15 Janvier 1790. Complete in two sheets. Les Officiers Municipaux de Troyes, 1790 [Troyes].
A large engraved map on two folding sheets, dissected, linen-backed, edged in pale blue linen, unfolding together to a size of 38½ x 45 ins [100 x 115 cm]. They fold down to a size of 12 x 9 ins [30 x 23.5 cm]. Each sheet has a small contemporary parchment label to the top edge Champagne & Brie 1790. The sheets fit into a map case of book form, probably of a little later construction, made of card covered with brown leather with a darker leather spine gilt, titled FRANCE CHAMPAGNE ET BRIE BAZIN TROYES.
The map is in excellent, sound condition but the case is very worn with most of the leather from the top of the box missing. A very interesting map produced just after the start of the French Revolution although still produced with the permission of the King, Louis XVI. mar17/1
