DAVIES. The 19th century armorial bookplate measures 65 x 97mm and is in clean condition. Col Henry Fanshawe Davies was born 1837, commissioned into the Grenadier Guards in 1854 but served in the Royal Navy in Burma and the Baltic. In 1874 he was a Captain and Lt Colonel serving in the 3rd Battalion. His father was General Francis John Davies [67th Foot] and his mother was Elizabeth, daughter of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas Martin GCB. He lived at Elmley Castle, near Pershore in Worcestershire. feb13/10
