The carte de visite shows four oval, shoulder length portraits of the same young ensign of the 94th. The card, with no photographer’s credit, is of the type where the portaits are pressed up from behind, giving the effect of a portrait miniature. The Bath star rank badge worn on the collar dates this to before 1880. The officer is identiied in a contemporary hand in ink at the lower edge as C. W. Humpage H. M. 94th Regnt. feb4/3
