Typed on a single folio sheet of paper with several folds and age wear, this unusual letter is addressed to The Right Honourable The Earl Kitchener, K.G., K.P., beginning My Lord writing from France on 25th August 1915, Yarde Buller informs Kitchener of the invaluable work being done by the 120 British ambulances which have evacuated 50,000 wounded man in very difficult conditions by night. He greatly praises the Commandant of the 3rd Convoy, Mr. Percy Tarbutt. Unlike most of the official communications recorded during WW1 this letter has a rather more personal tone, The writer had been one of the trusted, tight circle of aides which surrounded Kitchener during his tenure as c-in-c India during Curzon’s Viceroyalty. aug18/2
