Royal Tour of India by H.R.H The Prince of Wales [later Edward VIII] in 1921-22
£750.00
Walker,David: The Prince in India. A 1Record of the Indian Tour of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales – Nov. 1921 to March 1922. Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (Bombay) 1923 quarto [11¾ x 9 ins, 30 x 24.5 cm]
Single page route map, 93 plates of illustrations from photographs,xi, 299pp. De luxe binding of full blue leather with profuse gilt decoration including elephants, the Prince of Wales’s crest, and the badge of the Order of the Star of India to the front board and spine. There is some rubbing and staining to the binding, discolouration to margin of the frontispiece portrait [this being a photogravure on thick paper unlike the other illustrations], occasional marks and small tears to other pages, a few pages loose or loosening from the stitching but generally a sound copy of a scarce book, partially erased old private library stamps to frontis., title page and last page. As there is no list of illustrtions we cannot confirm that this copy has the correct number but nothing appears to have been removed. A very thorough account of this lengthy tour which made its way from Bombay through Rajputana and Benares to Calcutta, thence to Burma by steamer and back to the mainland at Madras to travel north via Indore, Agra, Delhi, Patiala and Lahore to the North West Frontier at Peshawar before returning via Rawalpindi, Kapurthala and Dehra Dun to sail from Karachi. There are numerous good portraits of princes, ceremonial occasions, hunting trips, etc. oct18/1
