Dalhousie Bazaar, Northern India. An unusual 1905 view of a bazaar in a hill town with a large milkitary cantonment,

£30.00

The rather unusual and very clear, evocative view, 5¾ x 4 ins., is titled on the piece of old album card Dalhousie Bazaar, May 12th to Oct 17th 1905This piece of card came from an album which had been put together by Captain Stanley Percy Ashby Rolls of the Dorsetshire Regiment and the dates refer to the period when the regiment was stationed in the hill town. The bazaar view is indicative of the era and it is clear that there are no British figures in the busy street. Europeans would seldom shop in a bazaar but would send their servants or have tradesmen deliver to their residences. jul22/1
