A printed card ticket, approximately 3¾ x 3 ins [96 x 80 mm], allowing Mr W Patterson of the Locomotive Department to travel between all stations with his servant in 3rd Class and is dated 187/ . An added note at the top of the ticket reads To Ride on Engine. The East Indian Railway originated in Calcutta and its most important line connected the capital with Delhi, although it was only in 1867 that the first through train ran on that route.   jul15/1
