Edward VIII. An unused calendar for 1937, showing King Edward VIII although he was succeeded by his brother, George VI in December 1936

The calendar, 14 x 10 ins., designed to hang on the wall by tasselled cord has a double mounted portrait of King Edward VIII as he was when the calendar was printed. Edward had succeeded his father King George V in January 1936 but abdicated in December when his brother became King George VI. Calendars tend to produced well in advance of the new year. The 8 x 6 ins. portrait has the photographer’s credit in white lower left Hugh Cecil, London and and Copyright lower right. It is in good condition with just a little curling at the corners. The photography is in the soft focus style popular at the time.  oct2/1
