Field Marshal’s gilt button, 23mm, early Elizabeth II period.

£35.00

A very good and unusual example of the gilt button worn on the  uniform of a Field Marshal dating from the early Elizabeth II period, 1950s or early 1960s . It has the device of crossed batons [compared with the crossed baton and sword of a General] within a wreath surmounted by a queen’s crown.  The backmark is JENNENS &Co, LONDON.  Staybrite buttons were bring introduced from the early 1950s but the process took time and field marshals were unlikely to be challenged if they retained gilt metal buttons for longer than most.   aug8/1
