GLOUCESTER, Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester (1776-1835)

GLOUCESTER. The 80 x 60mm bookplate shows the monogram WF within a garter surmounted by a Royal coronet for Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester [1776-1835], the only son of Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucestrer and Edinburgh and brother of King George III. The Prince was born at Teodoli Palace in Rome and died at Bagshot Park in Surrey, the current home of  H.R.H. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh. There is a very small loss to the tip of the lower right corner.  An oval version of this bookplate is illustrated in Brian North Lee: British Royal Bookplates [Scolar Press 1992] p.180.   dec17/2
