H. R, H, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh [1844-1900] was the second son of Queen Victoria. This carte de visite, which has no photographer’s credit, was taken during the Prince’s visit to India and Ceylon in the winter of 1869-70 when he was a naval officer. He was later to succeed his uncle as Duke of Saxe-Coburg. nov29/3
