HERALDRY. George IV period grant of armsof 1822, with original seals and red leather gilt box
£535.00
The vellum scroll grants arms to Thomas Perfect of Carswell in the County of Berks Esquire and further grants that instead of his present Surname ..may be called Thomas Hayward Southby and is dated 1822. The scroll retains the large red wax seals in brass lapet tins of George Naylor, Garter Principal King of Arms and Ralph Bigland, Clarenceaux King of Arms. The whole is contained in the orginal red leather box, 19¾ x 5½ x 2½ ins. The box, although sound, is rather faded and has some marks and scuffing [very improvable by someone with the skills]. The case also includes a fragile copy of a 1822 London Gazette. The reverse of the scroll also has the signatures of the York Herald and the marvellously named Rouge Dragon Pursuivant. dec10/2
