Imperial Yeomanry. Corporal G.W.H. Nevill. A cabinet card of the Boer War period 1898-1902

The cabinet card shows the corporal wearing service dress but of a smarter style than troopers wore and with leather riding boots or leggings rather than the more usual puttees. The card only has part of the photographer’s credit showing lower left but at the right is Fort Beaufort, a town in the Eastern Cape. It is signed in the negative G. W. H. Nevill making further research possible. He may well be a member of one of the local South African units.  There is a little damage to the card along the bottom and on the verso a corner of the backing is missing. However the photograph itself is in excellent condition. mar23/3
